The vice-president of the Commission for Values and Transparency, Viera Jourova, is visiting Athens on Monday, as part of the “tour for democracy”, in several member states, in view of the European elections. The general objective of the tour, according to the European Commission's statement, is to exchange views on how best to protect elections and strengthen the resilience of democracies to disinformation, information manipulation and external interference. The vice president will also discuss issues related to Russia's war against Ukraine and the rule of law. Ms. Yourova's contacts in Athens will begin with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister of State Akis Skertsos, while later she will meet with Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis.
