In Hong Kong, $ 451,000 was taken from a trader after selling USDT for cash

In Hong Kong, four robbers lured a trader into an office and robbed her of HK $ 3.5 million. The trader was paid in cash to sell USDT tokens.

According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong police are looking for a gang of criminals who lured a cryptocurrency trader to the office for a deal and stole HK $ 3.5 million in cash (about $ 451,000) from her. The second such robbery in two weeks happened on Monday after a woman met with a man who introduced himself as a cryptocurrency buyer.

Previously, she sold cryptoassets to this person in three transactions, each of which, according to police, ranged from 600,000 to 700,000 Hong Kong dollars.

“According to the investigation, the trader received HK $ 3.5 million in cash after using her iPhone to complete a USDT transaction to a buyer who turned out to be a criminal,” a police source said. “After giving the money to the trader, three men rushed out of the next room and took the money and iPhone from her, threatening with a knife.”

All four criminals escaped, trapping the victim in an office, police said. The gang may have made previous deals to win the victim’s trust and set the stage for the robbery. The robbery became known when the woman on the second phone contacted her husband, who called the police.

The office was recently rented out on a short-term basis and contained only a few pieces of furniture, according to law enforcement officials. The police conducted a search, but the criminals have not yet been detained.

Recall that in December one of the Moscow businessmen lost 15 million rubles. Unknown persons stole a backpack from him with cash, with which he was going to pay for the purchase of bitcoins.
