In Irkutsk, attackers deceived more than 100 citizens totaling more than 270 million rubles, offering them mining hotels, but in fact selling equipment provided by clients. A local resident turned to the police and said that in February he transferred him bought for 3 million rubles. “ASIC” (ASIC) for placing in the so-called mining hotel. At first, “income” came to him, but then the funds stopped to arrive. He went to the office where he gave the equipment, and found that he was closed.
Later, criminal investigators detained a 26-year-old individual entrepreneur, on behalf of which commercial activities were conducted. He said that the equipment of customers that was transferred to them for mining, they sold with two accomplices, and left the money to themselves.
Also, accomplices assigned the money that customers transferred them to buy equipment. To create the appearance of active activity, the attackers listed part of the funds proceeds from the sale of mining devices to customer cryptocurrencies.
According to preliminary data, attackers deceived more than 100 citizens totaling more than 270 million rubles, the report said. The police opened a criminal case of fraud and continues to interrogate the victims, as well as establish new episodes and circumstances of the case. The remaining participants in the fraudulent scheme are wanted.
This is not the first similar case in Irkutsk. In 2022, an investigation into the case of falsehood for miners was completed, the two organizer of which managed to steal 2 million rubles, selling equipment brought by customers.
In 2024, five residents of Chelyabinsk were convicted, who in a similar way deceived 68 people for 12 million rubles, reported to Irsity. Fraudsters also removed the office in Irkutsk and offered supposedly the supply and placement of equipment, charged and assigning it to themselves. The court appointed attackers the terms from three years eight months to four years with serving a sentence in a penal colony of general regime.
