In Israel, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak – “Let us all unite to avoid the escalation of the conflict”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Tel Aviv today, according to an eyewitness cited by Reuters, on a visit during which he will meet with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

Sunak will express condolences for the October 7 Palestinian Hamas attack on Israel, his office said, and warn against further escalation of the conflict.

“Every civilian death is a tragedy. And too many lives have been lost since the horrific act of terrorism by Hamas.”the British Prime Minister emphasized in a statement he issued ahead of his visit to Israel.

He added that the deadly explosion at a hospital in Gaza, where hundreds of Palestinians died, should be “a turning point for leaders in the region and around the world to come together and avoid further dangerous escalation of the conflict.”

At the same time, Sunak pledged that his country “will be at the forefront of this effort”.

Besides, the British Prime Minister will ask to open the border crossing of Rafa, which connects Gaza with Egyptas soon as possible so that aid can enter the Palestinian enclave and British citizens who are trapped there can escape.

At least seven Britons have been killed and nine others are missing after the Hamas attack, a Sunak spokesman said yesterday, Wednesday.

At the same time, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley, who visited Israel last week, will travel in the next three days to Egypt, Turkey and Qatar where he will meet with high-ranking officials and discuss the conflict and finding a peaceful solution.

Britain pointed out that these three countries are “vital to international efforts to maintain regional stability, free hostages and allow humanitarian access to Gaza.”
