In Italy, built a track with wireless charging for electric vehicles

Stellantis and partners have completed the construction of a section of the A35 motorway with Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer. The project, called Arena del Futuro (“Arena of the Future”), is a 1050 meter long loop powered by 1 MW of electricity. This makes it possible to charge electric vehicles directly while driving, thanks to a special system of wire loops that are located under the asphalt.

The track has already been tested by the New 500 electric car and the Iveco E-Way bus. The test results showed that the dynamic wireless power transmission system is a promising and effective step towards reducing and completely eliminating carbon dioxide emissions, as well as improving the environmental friendliness of vehicles.

For Stellantis, the project is part of the electrification strategy that the company announced this year. It wants to offer its customers not only modern cars with a long range, but also an ecosystem of services. To this end, the company intends to invest over 30 billion euros by 2025.

DWPT technology can be adapted for all vehicles equipped with a dedicated receiver. It receives energy from a system in the road infrastructure and transfers it to the battery. At the same time, connectivity using the IoT concept ensures maximum road safety. Thus, all this helps to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions. It is noteworthy that Time magazine named the Arena del Futuro project one of the 100 most important inventions of 2021.
