In January, 78% of salary negotiations had real gains, shows Fipe

Even with the specter of low growth hovering around the expectations of economic agents, in January, workers achieved real gains of an average of 1.1 percentage points above inflation measured by the National Consumer Price Index (INPC). This is what the Salariometer Bulletin of the Economic Research Institute Foundation (Fipe) of the University of São Paulo (USP) shows.

Regarding the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023, the median expectations of market analysts in the Focus Bulletin of the Central Bank (BC) point to a growth of only 0.84%.

Another piece of good news brought by Salariômetro is that which shows that 78% of salary negotiations in the first month of 2023 achieved this real gain of 1.1 percentage points above the INPC. This percentage is 2.68 times greater than the 29% of wage negotiations that achieved real gains above inflation in 2022.

According to Fipe, these movements occurred only three times in the last 12 months: in October and December 2022, and now in January. And salary gains above inflation tend to remain in February.

A preview of this month’s Salaryometer shows that of all closed wage negotiations, 85.7% had readjustments above the INPC variation.

“The projection of the INPC for the first semester indicates expansion of the space for the maintenance of the real gains in the salary readjustments”, write in the Boletim Salariônetro the technicians of the Fipe.
