In Japan, Lula speaks of insensitivity and regrets wars in Gaza and Ukraine

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva lamented the war in Ukraine and the end of the ceasefire in Gaza, during a DEclaration to the press in Tokyo, alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shigero Ishiba, on Wednesday (26).

“In Ukraine, I always argued that all stakeholders participate in negotiations for lasting peace,” he said. “The situation in the Middle East requires urgent responses from the international community. The recent violation of ceasefire in Gaza adds to a sequence of distress to humanitarian law.”

According to the president, the world “goes through a difficult political situation, a complicated economic situation and a lot of insensitivity in the political relationship between states.”

Lula used Europe as an example of the moment of instability globally, citing investment agreements in more weaponry.

“We saw what is happening in Europe, which was a part of the world that only lived in terms of tranquility. And today, after the Ukraine war, what we watched is to prepare again to buy weapons, for investment in weapons,” he said.

The president also cited the Brazilian arrested in Israel and said he saw “very seriously” the end of ceasefire in Gaza “where many people have already been killed.”

The speech occurred during the visit to Japan where Lula closes commercial agreements, seeks to strengthen the relationship between countries and calls for support for COP 30 that will take place in November in Brazil.

On Thursday (27) he will leave for Vietnam in the last stage of the visit to Asia.
