In Kyiv, the vice-president of the Commission, Margaritis Schinas

The vice-president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, is in Kyiv to discuss and strengthen the European Union’s support to Ukraine in the fields of health, education, youth and culture.

Mr. Schinas will visit a children’s hospital together with the Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Oleksandr Komarida.

The Commission emphasizes that the EU directly supports Ukraine in the health sector through the Civil Protection Mechanism and through Ukraine’s connection to the EU4Health program.

At the same time, the Vice-President of the Commission will participate in the reopening of a school together with the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhiy Scarlett, to celebrate the first day of the new school year, while he will meet with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.

He will also hold talks with the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko on the preservation and protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage and on the medium and long-term EU actions being prepared to provide further assistance to Ukrainian artists, cultural professionals and cultural organizations .

Ukrainian officials had already developed a close relationship with the Commission vice-president, who was the last EU Commissioner to visit the country before the Russian invasion. In particular, on October 28 he was in Odessa and then in Kyiv where he met the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.
