The Serbian president met Thursday night in Belgrade with EU mediator in the dialogue on resolving the Kosovo issue, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Matthew Palmer. The meeting discussed the possibility of restarting the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue under the auspices of the European Union.
Aleksandar Vucic posted on the internet that it was a constructive meeting, said that the dialogue with Pristina will continue soon and he said he was convinced that a compromise solution could be found to the Kosovo issue.
Today, EU and US officials will meet with Serbian Patriarch Porphyrios.
On Wednesday, Miroslav Lajcak and Matthew Palmer had separate meetings with the Kosovo political leadership in Pristina, where it was agreed to continue the dialogue with Belgrade. most likely on June 14. The Prime Minister of Kosovo stated in a press conference that the dialogue will not be a continuation of the previous process but a new beginning.
It is noted that Serbia opposes the version of starting the dialogue from scratch because in such a case Pristina will be relieved of the commitments it made in the past and especially of the obligation to allow the establishment of the Union of Serbian Municipalities as an independent administrative authority, a commitment it made in 2013 but never implemented.
