In Milan at the new House of Ronin: four floors of cocktails, Japanese dishes, karaoke and an exclusive club

Get on, get off, sip a cocktail, sing, order a plate of yakimonowiden your eyes, enjoy the music. Ronin, the new restaurant in Chinatown in Milan, is a whirlwind of emotions and flavors that makes you fly on four levels in one evening. It is a novelty that opened in via Alfieri 17 after the redevelopment of the square, in that area of ​​Milan where you can breathe the scent of the Orient. «A study and research work that lasted five years and then a great dream come true», say the brothers Jacopo and Leonardo Signanifounders of the “Salva tu Alma” group together with Guillaume Desforges and also owners of the Pacifico restaurant, which in addition to Milan has offices in Rome and Porto Cervo.

Once inside you don’t want to go out anymore. The music is the right one, the drinks have the perfect balance and go well with the dishes that come out of the kitchen, the food is delicious if you stop on the ground floor, it becomes excellent by climbing the fire stairs that lead to the first floor, until you reach perfection in the realm of omakase, where the host has not yet arrived but will bring a star-studded baggage from Tokyo, to give Milan an authentic Japanese experience. Here from House of Ronin every sense is satisfied: sight, smell, hearing, taste and even touch, if you try to touch the surface of the furniture made by the Design Unit of Salva Tu Alma together with Studio SC +.

Piccolo Ronin, Cocktail & «gigiyaki»

It is a crescendo of emotions that starts from the ground floor of the neoliberty building where the Little Ronin gives a taste of this journey into a futuristic Tokyo, but with feet firmly in Milan. We start with a cocktail: among the most interesting are the 1888 (tequila, mezcal, sencha tea and cucumber) andHighball roll with Bobby’s gin, viva mate organics, electric bitters and acid mix.

“Every drink has a name behind it with a story and a study,” explains the bar manager Riccardo Speranza, who took care of the careful and at the same time imaginative research of the cocktails on the list, each different from the other on the four floors of the venue. To accompany them there are the dishes of the Japanese gastronomic culturesome in a revisited key such as i gigiyaki named in honor of chef Gigi Nastri: delicious octopus agemono with takoyaki sauce. To try for an aperitif (prices from 20 to 50 euros) also i mini bao like the one with pork belly, pack choi and taro taro sauce, gunkan and yakitori in all variations. “Congratulations on the playlist,” says a customer at the counter with a London accent. «No playlist, for each evening there is a different music selection. Tonight at the listening bar there is Jolly Mare », explains Alberto Bloise of Cultivar agency, who is in charge of the press office and communication of House of Ronin. It is Luca Fiore of Ultimate Tango which selects artists and selectors.

Robatayaki, on hot coals

At the second step the level of the gastronomic proposal also rises with the Robatayaki restaurant. Red, warm, the beating heart of this temple of taste: everything revolves around the Japanese style barbecue, where tuna belly and Canadian real beef sizzle over the coals. The dishes are prepared by the expert hands of the chef Gigi Nastri, under the eyes of customers who enjoy a flaming show cooking. The dish with the crown is the risotto with robata lacquered eel and mandarin: a trademark that combines Japanese culture with one of the traditional Milanese dishes, risotto. The level rises, so do the prices: for dinner the range is between 80 and 120 euros.

Second floor, Karaoke and Omakasé

You always return to the red staircase, a knot that holds the four floors together and invites you to go up another level to continue discovering the wonders of Ronin, where the desire to have fun, let yourself go and sing takes over. Second floor: four private rooms with screens and microphones for karaoke, a leap into the future with references to Blade Runner, games of mirrors, lights and neon that make your eyes widen and enter a surreal world. To quench the thirst the Madame Cheng’s small cocktail & sake bar, between soft lights and a warm atmosphere. Also on this level, from March it will be possible to savor a unique experience with omakasè by the great master Katsu Nakaji: ten seats arranged around the wooden counter, in a small room to fall in love with the traditional cuisine of the land of the Rising Sun.

Third floor, the private club

A gem is hidden on the third floor: behind the last door there is a comfort zone that disconnects the plug with everything that has been seen and heard on the other floors. There is a fireplace that warms the atmosphere and makes guests feel at home, elegant armchairs and sofas with a sober and refined design, a pool table for game lovers and a small stage for private shows. And the Member’s Club Arcadean exclusive experience reserved for members: it is accessed only by invitation, as in some clubs in London or Manhattan, a more intimate setting to take a breath after a night of partying.

The new world

At Ronin, nothing is left to chance. The details – from the furnishings to the cocktails – are treated in an almost maniacal way down to the smallest detail. The interactive displays that spread art on the various floors are the project of the The Art Program, community of art social impact. It is a new world for Milan, a breath of fresh air that allows you to travel without taking trains and planes, staying in the heart of the city. And at a time when traveling is complicated, places like these are needed. “Reservations are full for the whole month, but we always reserve some places for those who arrive and want to have a quick aperitif”, explains Riccardo Speranza. “Immediately after the opening, we invited the neighbors and the inhabitants of the neighborhood to try the place to make us known as a new reality”, adds Speranza, noting how important it is to establish ties with customers who are passionate about the place and return willingly. The project does not end there, the future holds other surprises: a terrace on the top floor and an outdoor area in front of the entrance to the restaurant to enjoy even during the summer.
