In Myanmar, insurgents from the Karen ethnic minority attacked a government army outpost near the border with Thailand on the morning of April 27, 2021. Reported by Reuters.
An armed group of the Karen National Union said it had taken over an army camp on the western bank of the Salween River, which runs the border with Thailand.
The Myanmar military retaliated against the rebels from the air, Thai authorities said. About 450 peasants left their homes to avoid danger.
Journalists note that the clash has become one of the most intense since the military coup in Myanmar. There is no data on the losses of the parties, the Myanmar military does not comment on what happened.
The fighting began against the backdrop of the reaction of the military junta that seized power in Myanmar to the diplomatic efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The junta said it would “positively” consider ASEAN’s proposals to end the unrest in the country only when stability was “restored.”

- Sanctions against the junta were imposed by the United States, Great Britain and the EU.
- On April 10, it became known of an attack in Myanmar by fighters of ethnic armed groups on a police station. More than 10 ethnic groups have declared the junta illegal.
