In new FIFA ranking, Brazil maintains leadership and Argentina enters the top 3

FIFA, the highest body in world football, released this Thursday (23) its updated ranking of the teams, the first since the final definition of the countries classified for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

After taking the lead in the last ranking, released in March, Brazil maintained its lead and extended its advantage over Belgium, which remains in second place. After four games without a win in the European Nations League, France lost third place to Argentina, who have not lost any of their last 33 games.

The region with the most countries qualified for the World Cup, Europe maintains its dominance and occupies the remaining six positions of the top 10, with England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark. The latter took the place of Mexico, which has fallen three places since March.

Since the release of the last ranking, 280 matches have been played and 177 of the 211 member countries of FIFA have suffered some change in their position. Despite not being classified for Qatar, Kazakhstan climbed 11 positions, the biggest gain. Egypt and Nepal had the worst performances and fell eight positions each.

Among the 32 teams guaranteed at the World Cup, Ghana is the lowest placed in the FIFA ranking, occupying the 60th place.
