In Nicosia a copy of the flag of the Cypriot fighters of the revolution of 1821

Copy of the flag of the Cypriot fighters of the revolution of 1821 handed over by the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus, Theocharis Lalakos to the Minister Of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus, Prodromos Prodromou.

In his statements to the journalists, after the meeting of the two men at the embassy of Nicosia, Mr. Prodromou stated, according to the APE-MPE: “The inseparable unity of Hellenism and the identification of the fate of the Hellenism of Cyprus with the rest of Hellenism from the depths of the centuries verified then, when the great national revolution began, the uprising of the nation in 1821.

The part of Cyprus in that great uprising It was certainly what happened here in Cyprus in July 1821 with the martyrdom sacrifice, not only of Archbishop Kyprianos, but also of hundreds of other prelates and hierarchs, who were precautionarily murdered by the Turks in Cyprus.

The part of Cyprus also includes the struggle given by dozens of Cypriot fighters fighting in Greece. This is evidenced by the honorary column in Messolonghi – Cypriots were there and fought – we learn this from the memoirs of General Makrygiannis who talks about the brave warrior Cypriot.

This flag that Mr. Lalakos had the kindness to hand me a copy of, is the flag with which the Cypriot fighters fought in ’21. A copy of it will be given to all schools and in this way, with this high symbolism, we want to emphasize the great importance of the 200 years of polygenesis of Hellenism but also to remind how close Cyprus is to the fate of the rest of Hellenism “.

At the same time, the Ambassador of Greece, after referring to the ongoing cooperation of the Greek Embassy with the Cypriot Government and especially with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, congratulated the Minister of Education and consequently the entire government for the initiative. to use the banner of the Cypriot fighters of 1821 as an inspiration for the students of all Cyprus in all schools at all levels of education.

Mr. Lalakos stated, finally, that the flag of the Cypriot fighters is a constant reminder of the unity of the Greek nation in the struggles it waged, and of the fraternal ties that unite Greek and Cypriot Hellenism.
