Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Soigu went to Pyongyang, where he will meet with Northern Korean President Kim Jong Un, according to Russian news agencies Tass and RIA. North Korea and Russia have dramatically reinforced their military cooperation lately. The two countries have signed an agreement providing that one would defend the other in the event of an attack during a rare visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea last year. Western governments, like those of Ukraine and South Korea, accuse Pyongyang of sending troops and weapons to the Russian region of Kursk to fight the Ukrainian armed forces alongside the Russian army. Neither Moscow nor Pyongyang have confirmed to date.
