In the Plenary Session of the Parliament, the discussion of the proposal of the president and the deputies of SYRIZA for the establishment of a committee of inquiry begins, in order to investigate the “operation of political manipulation of public opinion, degradation of institutions and waste of public money”.
“The government, for a long time, and even today, has been incessantly planning and executing a press-driven strategy, under which fat packages of funding and state advertising are used as a weapon against opposition journalists and as a reward for friendships with the government or the conveniently silent journalistic pens “, SYRIZA stated in its proposal and spoke about the political use of the pandemic for the control of the media. This is exactly the complaint that the MPs of the official opposition are expected to make, who will take the stage to analyze and justify the proposal for the establishment of a committee of inquiry.
The official opposition, in its proposal, has requested a commission of inquiry to investigate “all cases of outsourcing of communication and information services carried out invoking the implementation of a campaign for the protection of public health, measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus COVID -19 and the participation of citizens in the vaccination, without observing the principles of transparency and without objective criteria, namely the “Skin List No. 1”, the “Skin List No. 2”, the campaign of the Ministry of Health for vaccination, as well as the assignment to ENTERPRISE GREECE mentioned above “. It has also called for an investigation into “any waste of public money by the government towards the polling company Opinion Poll”, which conducts polls beyond all ethics with the sole aim of serving the government’s political goals and manipulating citizens, as well as the possible existence of of other polling companies, the owners of which maintain a parallel activity through which they directly or indirectly receive funding from the Greek State and the wider public sector “.
The SYRIZA proposal has been submitted on the basis of Article 68 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the Parliament may constitute two committees of inquiry per parliamentary term, provided that the relevant proposal of at least ten deputies is voted in favor by two-fifths of the deputies, regardless of the majority.
