In Polignano a Mare, the exhibition that leads to “nothing”

From 9 July to 10 September at Vento Blu art gallery inaugurates «A helpfull guide to nowhere». It could be translated as “Useful guide to nowhere”, a reflection of contemporary artists Giacomo Costa and Gehrard Demetz, on man’s way of living his planet and on the repercussions his choices have on the environment.

Fiorentino Giacomo Costa, which for over 20 years has been investigating the relationship between man and nature (he exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and at the Center Pompidou where he became part of the permanent collection in 2006), South Tyrolean Gehrard Demetz, who began his artistic career in Val Gardena, where he was born, carving wood and then exploring this art in a contemporary version and becoming world famous.

The two artists meet in “A helpfull guide to nowhere”, in representing a dystopian future, the future that leads to “nothing”, which is born from the images of Giacomo Costa, which the statues of Demetz approach.

Images that arise from mixture of reality and fiction, of painter and technology and investigating the themes that distress the contemporary world: natural disasters, speculations, pollution, the devastating environmental impact of unsustainable development, the reckless exploitation of natural resources. The result is minimal landscapes, futuristic megalopolises, post-nuclear suburbs and urban agglomerations in ruins, which amplify their impact by the “statuesque” presence of Demetz, almost an absent man, while everything is transformed.

«A helpfull guide to nowhere» by Giacomo Costa and Gehrard Demetz is on show at the Vento Blu art gallery of Polignano a Mare (Bari), in via Conversano 14 from 9 July to 10 September. On 9 July, the artists will be present from 8 pm to 10 pm
