In preventive action, Anvisa suspends the sale of the Fugini brand; company says products remain safe

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) preventively suspended the manufacture, distribution and sale of Fugini brand foods, whose main products are tomato sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, potato chips and canned vegetables.

The measure published on Monday (27) is valid only for goods in stock at the company. In note to CNN the company explained that all products that “are for consumption in homes, for sale in markets or stocked in distribution centers, remain safe and available to consumers”.

According to Anvisa, the action was taken after carrying out a sanitary inspection at the factory in Monte Alto (SP), in which serious flaws in good manufacturing practices related to hygiene, quality control and safety of raw materials, control of pests, traceability, among others.

This, according to the agency, can impact the quality and safety of the final product.

The interruption of commercialization is valid until the company makes its manufacturing processes comply with the good practices of the regulatory entity.

Mayonnaise

A specific resolution will be published on Thursday (30) for batches of mayonnaise produced at the Monte Alto plant, from December 20, 2022 to March 21, 2023.

Sale will be prohibited and the recall of all products due in January, February or March 2024 will be determined.

The ban also applies to all lots that will expire in December 2023 with numbers starting at 354.

The measure was taken by the use of expired raw material in the manufacture.

“Expired foods, including their raw materials, are considered unfit for consumption, according to the Consumer Protection Code, and their exposure for sale or consumption is considered a sanitary infraction. Thus, the collection of food aims to remove from the market products that represent a risk or harm to the health of the consumer”, explains Anvisa.

“Commercial establishments and consumers who have batches of the product should not use them and should immediately contact the company Fugini Alimentos Ltda., which will collect them”, he continues.
