Russian courts have sentenced 135 people to perennial prison sentences for their involvement in a mass protest against Israel in October 2023 at the Dagestan capital’s airport, which is a mainly Muslim area, the country’s investigative committee announced today. Hundreds of protesters who were shouting slogans against Israel had then invaded Mahatskala Airport, where an aircraft had just arrived from Tel Aviv. The protest took place in the context of riots that had erupted in the North Caucasus for the Israeli war against the Palestinian Hamas Fighter Organization in Gaza. Investigators said they had gathered data against 132 people and completed investigations into the involvement of 139 people in the riots.
