A good cleaning changes anyone’s day. The organized and clean house brings a sense of well-being. And Veronica Oliveira, creator of Faxina Boa, understands this well. But, in her case, the cleaning was done by herself and the practice didn’t just change her day, but her whole life.
She quit her job as a telemarketer and started to dedicate her time to cleaning and organizing houses, until she became an influencer, speaker and writer. Veronica became known on social media for producing creative and humorous content, accumulating more than 300,000 followers on Instagram alone.
As a guest on the 9th episode of CNN In Profit podcast, CNN Brasil Soft project, the ex-cleaner told how this career transition process was, the difficulties she had with money and how she turned around.
How did you become a cleaning lady
In the conversation led by Leandro Munhós, Veronica explains that she comes from a middle-class family, lived in the central region of São Paulo and studied at a traditional school. “This scenario gives the impression that everything is right for you all the time,” she says. But the story was different.
Veronica’s parents separated, she went to live on the outskirts of town, got pregnant at 17, didn’t go to college and didn’t enter the job market to dedicate herself to taking care of her daughter. At age 28, Veronica started working as a telemarketer, but she didn’t expect the company she worked for would go bankrupt. “My children and I went to live in a shack, we went hungry, we went through many difficulties. And I got sick, physically and psychologically,” she said.
In a moment of difficulty, Veronica decided to sleep at a friend’s house. On this day she realized that cleaning could change her life. “We finished eating and I went to wash the dishes, then I cleaned the stove and the floor. And I started cleaning the whole house. At the end of the day, she paid me R$150. I earned R$700 a month. My head exploded, I couldn’t even sleep,” she recalls.
creative ads
After deciding what to do, it was time to publicize the work and Veronica did not disappoint in the advertisement. She became known on social media for offering her services with creative ads using references from series and movies, such as Kill Bill, Orage is The New Black, Back to the Future, Breaking Dad, Star Wars and Dr. Casa, Lar. According to her, the idea was to show who she was and offer the service in a fun way.
“I looked on the networks how people offer cleaning, and they apologize beforehand. I was in a lot of trouble too, but I didn’t want to focus on that. I wanted to focus on being good at what I did.”
Veronica says that she spoke phrases like “I don’t charge a daily fee, I charge a fee because I put on a show” and people loved her relaxed manner. It was so successful that in the first week its Facebook page already had 10,000 followers.
