In Rio, a child dies and two are injured by stray bullets

One child died and two were injured during a shooting in the city of Queimados, in Baixada Fluminense, this Thursday (6). According to the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, the agents were on patrol on a road near a local community when they were shot at. The corporation reports that the military did not fire back.

Shortly after the incident, police were informed by residents that there was an injured child. She was even rescued in a municipal emergency room, but she did not resist the injuries and died.

Then, another child and a teenager were admitted with wounds in the same health unit. They were transferred to hospitals in neighboring cities. A 13-year-old girl was admitted to the General Hospital of Nova Iguaçu this Thursday afternoon, after being shot in the right leg (thigh region). She also had bladder damage from the perforation. She immediately underwent emergency surgery and is in the post-operative period. Despite the seriousness of the injury, at the moment, the health status is stable.

The state hospital Adão Pereira Nunes, also in Duque de Caxias, did not report the health status of the child admitted to the unit.

A CNN he sought out the Civil Police to obtain details of the investigation, but has not yet received a return.

According to Instituto Fogo Cruzado, in December 2021, five children were shot in the metropolitan region of Rio. All survived.
