In Russia, Android users are more often attacked via messengers than in other countries

Kaspersky Lab experts have shared statistics on phishing attacks via instant messengers, popular all over the world.

In Russia, Android users are more often attacked via messengers than in other countries

As it turned out, Russian Android users face such incidents more often than representatives from other countries. Almost every second (46%) attempt to follow a malicious link from a messenger from December 2020 to May 2021 was blocked in Russia.

Phishing links in Russia were spread most often via WhatsApp. This messenger accounts for 83% of cases. Viber took the second place. Every tenth such attack is made through this messenger. Telegram’s share was only 7%.

Olga Svistunova, content analyst at Kaspersky Lab, explained:

Phishing is a very common type of online scam, most often aimed at stealing personal data. You can encounter it almost everywhere: in e-mail, SMS, social networks, advertising. Messengers are no exception. Attackers monitor what is happening in the world and understand that people are increasingly using instant messengers for personal and work communication. We recommend using anti-phishing technologies and being skeptical about dubious messages in messages. ”
