In Russia, K. Skrekas for cheap gas

The Minister of Energy Costas Skrekas is paying a visit to St. Petersburg, where the headquarters of the Russian gas giant Gazprom is located. During his stay in the Russian city, the Greek minister is expected to have contacts with the leadership of the Russian company in view of the preparation of the visit of Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis to Sochi, Russia next Wednesday.

Although the agenda of the Putin-Mitsotaki meeting has not yet been announced, it is considered certain that reference will be made to energy issues. As it is known, Greece supplies about 45% of the total quantities of natural gas consumed by Russia through Gazprom.

During his visit to St. Petersburg, Mr. Skrekas is expected to meet with Gazprom’s strongman Alexei Miller and possibly with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Suglkinov.

The goal of the Greek side is to achieve a reversal of the terms of the gas supply contract, so that import prices are determined to a greater extent by the price of crude oil and less by international fuel prices at the Dutch hub (TTF). The reason is obvious as international gas prices have risen significantly and are above 90 euros / MWh. It is noted that in 2020 when the conditions were reversed, DEPA Commerce had requested and succeeded in making prices more based on TTF and less on oil. Now the Russian side is opposed to a new change
