The Chinese company Oppo demonstrated in Russia its unusual smartphone Oppo X 2021. It is equipped with a flexible screen, but the design of the smartphone is not folding, but sliding.
Oppo X 2021 is often called a “roll-phone smartphone”, but this name is not entirely correct, because the screen here does not roll up into a tube.
The “extra” inches in the “folded” state are removed behind the back panel. As such, the user-accessible screen area has a diagonal of 6.7 inches and a resolution of 1175 x 2592 pixels.
In the maximum “expanded” diagonal reaches 7.4 inches, and the resolution is 1785 x 2592 pixels. The transition from mode to mode is carried out automatically using special motors.
The smartphone also received a regular camera and two ToF cameras on the back. But the front camera is not provided. An adapted version of ColorOS has become the hardware platform, applications work correctly, despite the unusual form factor.
Unfortunately, this development by Oppo will remain at the level of a beautiful concept, the company has no plans to sell it.
