The information publication Vedomosti, citing statistics from Russian electronics retailers, reports that the demand for wireless speakers in the country has dropped markedly. The fact is that in July 2021, 184 thousand portable speakers worth 1.272 billion rubles were sold in Russia, while in July last year, Russian retailers managed to sell 239 thousand speakers. True, their total cost then amounted to only 1.267 billion rubles. Accordingly, based on statistics, the sales volumes dropped noticeably, while the total cost of the equipment remained almost unchanged.
This year, retailers managed to sell 54 thousand units of equipment less than in the same period of 2020 – this is a drop of 22.7%. On the other hand, against the background of the fading interest of potential buyers in portable speakers, the average price for this technique has grown significantly. Back in July 2020, the average price for one device sold was 5309 rubles, while in July this year this parameter is already 6899 rubles. That is, the average price increased by 29.9% – this is an impressive figure, given that only a year has passed and no cardinal changes have occurred in this market.
Also, representatives of the M.Video retail network said that it is quite logical to assess the audio equipment market using wireless speakers – they account for 75% of all sales in this branch of electronics. The retailers themselves did not suffer from the fall in demand, but they won almost nothing – at the moment, the growth of total revenue from sales of wireless speakers is only 0.4%. Moreover, major electronics retailers noted that the balance of power in the segment has not changed – JBL is still in the lead with a 69.1% share in the number of devices sold and 83.8% in revenue. Next comes Sony with 2.7% of the segment, Rombica with 2.6%, Xiaomi with 2% and smaller manufacturers.
