Law enforcement agencies of the Sverdovsk region detained a gang, which attacked a crypto investor and stole a cryptocurrency from him for 5.6 million rubles.
Investigators of Yekaterinburg completed the investigation of the abduction of a person for the sake of cryptocurrency. Four participants in the criminal group will appear before the court. This was reported by the prosecutor’s office of the Sverdlovsk region in its telegram channel.
The composition of the gang
According to the investigation, the criminal group acted from March to August 2023. One of its participants, a resident of the Altai Territory, found out that cryptocurrencies were stored in a crypto -investor from Yekaterinburg worth more than 500 million.
The gang also included the acting head of the EbiPK department from Novoaltaysk. For a bribe of 300 thousand, he handed over to the attackers the personal data about the victim from the BAZ of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: a place of residence, information about vehicles and information about the close victim.
The criminals carefully prepared for the implementation of their scheme. For several months, the gang follow the victims, studying all his movements. Attackers also rented apartments in the Verkh-Isetsky district of Yekaterinburg and armed themselves with firearms.
USDT attack and theft
In July 2023, the participants in the criminal group stole the crypto-investor and took it to the Lower Sesetsk Forest Park. The attackers threatened the victim with a weapon until she gave access to her cryptocurrencies.
The gang transferred USDT in the amount of 5.6 million rubles (at the rate at that time) to its accounts. Part of the funds – about 4 million rubles – criminals sold through third parties to hide traces. The case was sent to the Sverdlovsk Regional Court. The accused faces up to 15 years in a colony on the totality of articles, including robbery, extortion and laundering.
Earlier in Buenos Aires, Argentina, another criminal group abducted Russians and demanded a ransom of $ 43,000 in USDT. The victims escaped only in fright. The attackers fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
