In Buryatia, a mining farm was discovered, which illegally used electricity intended for the village. The most interesting thing is that 95 installations for the production of cryptocurrencies were located in the KAMAZ truck. There was also a powerful transformer connected to the power line.
The illegal mining farm in the truck was discovered during a planned check of the power line in the Baikal district of the Republic of Buryatia.
This is the sixth case of the theft of electricity associated with the illegal mining of cryptocurrencies in Buryatia since the beginning of the year, the Buryatenergo division of Rosseti Siberia said. The authorities warned that illegal connections violate the work of local networks, causing voltage, overload changes and possible shutdowns.
Cryptocurrencies in most of the territory of Buryatia are prohibited from November 15 to March 15 due to a shortage of electricity in the region. The rest of the time, mining is allowed only to registered companies in certain areas, such as the North Baikal and Muysky.
In December 2024, the Russian government introduced a ban on mining digital assets in a number of regions of the country. So, it is impossible to extract cryptocurrencies in Dagestan, Chechnya, from April 2025 in the southern regions of the Irkutsk region. At the same time, it is there that the first and largest center for processing data from the Russian mining company Bitriver, which was launched in 2019 in Bratsk, is located.
