In December 2022, the Russian government approved the New Industrial Software (NIPO) document, according to the roadmap of which Russia plans to start production of domestic modern Wi-Fi routers by the end of 2024. We are talking about devices with support for the Wi-Fi 6 standard. The project will be supervised by the Ministry of Digital Development – Izvestia has read the document.
According to current plans, by the end of 2024, Russia should not only establish the production of equipment, but also ensure the supply of components, as well as the marketing of manufactured products – customers should receive at least 500 thousand devices. The largest providers, Rostelecom and ER-Telecom Holding, are considered as potential buyers.
The main advantage of Wi-Fi 6 is the support for additional frequencies, which allows you to offload the frequencies of old standards. This problem is most noticeable in crowded places: for example, Bluetooth headphones may not work correctly in the subway (because smartphones and other gadgets of passengers overload the allocated frequency and interfere with each other).
In the roadmap, they plan to increase the production of routers of the same standards. It is noted that devices manufactured in Russia mainly support only the 2.4 GHz frequency. Operation at 5 and 6 GHz requires more sophisticated equipment.
