In Russia, while blocking VPNs, they do not yet prohibit the use of such services

The head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, Alexander Khinshtein, said in an interview with Interfax that the State Duma is not considering the issue of restricting the use of VPNs.

Asked if he plans to restrict the use of VPN services to access social networks Instagram and Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), Alexander Khinshtein said: “I don’t know about such initiatives. We didn’t work on them.”

However, last week it became known that about 20 popular VPN services have already been blocked in Russia, while Roskomnadzor intends to continue this work. The information was confirmed by the same Alexander Khinshtein. That is, VPN services can be blocked selectively, but they will not be prohibited from using them yet.
