A traffic police officer from Saratov who used an office space for mining bitcoin was fired from the police for abuse of office.
For almost two months, Saratov law enforcement officers investigated the incident against a former employee of the RER of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, who, from December 2020 to July 2021, was mining bitcoin at his workplace. He placed the mining equipment in the temporarily unused premises of the police building on the 6th Sokolovogorsk passage.
The criminal case against the former traffic police officer was transferred to the court. The press secretary of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Saratov region emphasized that he was fired for actions defaming the honor of an employee of the internal affairs bodies. The regional investigation department of the TFR reported that it caused serious damage due to excessive consumption of electricity:
“Illegal actions of the official were identified and suppressed by the officers of the ORC (SB) of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Saratov region. The damage caused by his unlawful actions, consisting in overpayment for electricity, amounted to 231,000 rubles. ”
