NASA has announced that the Perseverance rover has begun its scientific activities on the Red Planet.
This significant event took place on June 1, 2021, but it was announced only yesterday.
Until that time, the rover underwent system tests, was preparing for operation, and also supported flight tests of the Ingenuity helicopter.
The six-wheeled rover is now heading south to explore the bottom of Jezero Crater for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will spend the first few weeks on its way to the lowlands, from where the rover can explore some of the oldest geological features in the crater. The project team will present online the capabilities of the auto-navigation and sampling system.
