In Senegal, N. Dendias – Meeting with his counterpart

Senegalese Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias was warmly welcomed by Senegalese Foreign Minister Aissat Sall upon his arrival at Dakar Airport. This first official visit at the level of Greek Foreign Minister is an important opportunity for the expansion of relations and the cultivation of closer cooperation between Greece and Senegal, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states in a post on twitter.

Mr. Dendias’s visit to Senegal today and to Cape Verde tomorrow is part of Greece’s active involvement in Sub-Saharan Africa. During his stay, the Foreign Minister will hold a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials, according to a relevant announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Specifically, today in Senegal the Foreign Minister will be received in a hearing by the President of the country, Macky Sall, and will have a meeting with his counterpart Aissat Sall. During the visit, the signing of a Memorandum of Political Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries is planned.

He will also attend the opening ceremony of the Greek Embassy in Dakar. He will also visit the Pasteur Institute in Dakar, which cooperates with the Greek corresponding Institute and is expected to play a central role in the production of vaccines.

In addition, he will participate in a teleconference with Greek Officers of the European Mission EUTM Mali. Finally, it is expected to make a donation to provide support to children and young people with special needs through sports, through the organization “Special Olympics Senegal”.

The following day, 24 February, the Foreign Minister will be in Cape Verde, where he is expected to be heard by President José Maria Neves and Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva.

He will also meet with his counterpart Rui Figueiredo Soares, as well as with the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Tavares Correia. During the visit, the signing of a Memorandum of Political Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries is also planned.

Finally, the Minister is expected to make a donation for a UNICEF program to strengthen the “Nȏs Kaza” Centers (Day Centers), with the aim of social and educational integration of vulnerable groups.
