Why did you choose to show us this exercise?
“At a certain age it is one of the most common problems of women: the triceps area begins to sag and then, with the help of the former dancer Valentina Crippa, we show some simple exercises to tone the area, so we don’t worry if we feel like putting on a short sleeve shirt or applauding », he smiles.
Do you practice them?
“Sure, very often. During the lockdown I was training via Zoom with Valentina and I noticed that they gave amazing results. They are fast, short and intense exercises, which for those who are not used to it can also be tough. Two songs last, as I say ».
What is the secret of its dazzling form?
“I’ve been practicing for years triathlon: I dedicate myself to running, swimming and cycling. I train twice a week for each discipline. I really like setting goals. I always train with trained experts, they are not for DIY ».
What is your typical day like?
«I do a lot of things. I usually get up very early in the morning and go for a run, swim or ride my bike. I also try to combine two sports, to facilitate the transition from one discipline to another during competitions: sometimes I do an hour of swimming and three, eight or ten kilometers of running. When I go out on my bike, I get around 50 km. The other day I rode my bike on the Gavia mountain pass, at 2600 meters, my husband was convinced that I hadn’t made it: it was hard, but in the end I got to the bottom ».
What discipline do you prefer?
«Swimming, as a young man I participated in the American championships and I was doing well, let’s say that I still do my dirty figure in the pool», he smiles.
Are your children as athletic as you are?
«They are very good, they are very good for cycling. My son defends himself well. We love to vacation together and challenge each other on the climbs, they get to the top before me, but they have a persistent mom. In the end, what matters is to make it on your own feet ».
For your 50th birthday, she gave herself the autobiography Just Me. What did you find out?
“That I have lived many lives in 50 years, which are always evolving: what I was yesterday is not today. I am intrigued by this idea, to adapt to the times and circumstances of the moment. I am a more aware woman, I always want to improve myselfi, I’m not easily satisfied, I like challenges ».
The next challenge?
«I have just been to Bormio with a group of women for the so-called Pink Event. We will repeat it at the end of July. We tackle the climbs by bike even if our husbands are convinced that we will never make it. And then we participate in gods workshop that talk about nutrition, how to replace an inner tube or deal with other practical aspects of the bike. In short, it is a way to make us more autonomous and overcome the limits we set ourselves ».
Do you follow a strict diet?
«By doing a lot of sport I don’t limit myself much, I’m lucky because I don’t like fried food and I don’t eat brewer’s yeast, for allergic reasons. I drank enough soda in the US (laughs). But every now and then I taste the Coke to remind me of the old days. I don’t give up on sweets. Obviously, before the races, a nutritionist follows me and I try to calibrate proteins and fats. As for carbohydrates in the summer, I don’t use them much. In general, I eat a bit of everything, I drink a lot of water, and every now and then we get a glass of wine, the good one ».
When everyone was getting vaccinated, he got Covid. How did it go?
“It happened in May, my son took it from school and passed it on to the whole family. Luckily it didn’t hit my lungs, I suffer from asthma. I had a severe cold, an annoying cough and a crazy headache: I felt like I had a knife stuck in my forehead. And then I was unable to formulate complete sentences, both in English and in Italian. I got scared. The other family members had no problems. Fortunately, I quickly became negativized ».
