In Shelekhov, a thief of mining equipment worth 1 million rubles was detained

An entrepreneur filed a complaint with the police of the city of Shelekhov, Irkutsk Region, about the theft of mining equipment in the amount of 1 million rubles. The perpetrator was soon arrested.

According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk Region, the mining equipment was located in one of the offices of the office space. A 54-year-old resident of Shelekhov entered the office and “under the threat of violence dangerous to life and health” took out the devices.

“As the police established, at night the attacker, having calculated the security premises, entered the room and, under the threat of using weapons, closed the 70-year-old watchman in the neighboring office. Then the criminal took out more than 20 pieces of equipment for cryptocurrency mining from the premises and fled,” law enforcement agencies said.

The suspect had previously been convicted of theft and, according to him, a lack of money forced him to commit the crime. A criminal case was initiated against the 54-year-old offender under Art. 161 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – theft on an especially large scale. He faces imprisonment for a term of 6 to 12 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

In early June, it was reported that in 2021 in Russia, the number of litigations involving cryptocurrencies has significantly increased. The indicator increased by 40% and amounted to 1,531 cases.
