In the Spanish city of Seville, in one of the ancient tombs, archaeologists have discovered a rare artifact – a dagger made of rock crystal, dated to 3000 BC. It is assumed that ancient people could endow it with magical properties and use it for religious rites, writes ZME Science.
According to scientists, people who inhabited prehistoric Europe, in most cases, made knives and daggers from stone, but rock crystal was practically not used for these purposes. This is probably why such specimens were considered especially valuable and even magical.
In particular, in ancient times, rock crystal symbolized vitality, connection with ancestors and was considered an excellent device for carrying out rituals and ceremonies.
The dagger, 8.5 inches long (about 22 cm – ed.), Was found in the tomb of Montelirio tholos, excavated in 2007-2010. The weapon’s handle and scabbard were made of ivory.
Near the dagger, 25 people were found buried in a ritual style – in shrouds and with amber ornaments.
