In the ‘corner’ once again Johnson

Strong criticism and anger again from the British MPs for the partygate, while a vote is pending on whether a new investigation will be launched for the prime minister.

Johnson’s return to the British Parliament after the Catholic Easter holiday was certainly full of tensions. How could it be otherwise? During this interruption, he was fined by the police for his participation in the well-known partygate scandal and now he is faced with the key questions of the deputies.

A repeated apology from Johnson

So today, in his first appearance in Parliament after the fine of 50 pounds, he apologized again to the sound of disapproval from the opposition. From the beginning of his speech he repeated that “it did not cross my mind that I violated the rules and I apologize”, while he added that “drastic changes have already begun within Number 10”. Within minutes, however, he changed his tone and asked his colleagues to turn their attention to the cost of living that plagues the British people and the war in Ukraine, stating that “the best thing we can do is take care of our jobs.” “.

The language of the official opposition leader, Sir Kir Starmer, was harsh and emotionally charged, but he attacked the prime minister’s character. “He has to give up, but he will not do it. Because he is not ashamed and he does not respect anyone, not even those who lost their own people without being able to hold their hand for the last time.” In fact, he addressed the Conservative MPs directly, urging them to “prioritize the country and their conscience and to be the ones to oust the prime minister from his position.”

On the same wavelength as the other opposition parties, with Liberal leader Ed Devi wondering if “the prime minister has deliberately misled Parliament or is so incapable of understanding his own laws.”

Third investigation against Johnson?

At the beginning of the sitting and before Johnson’s speech, the Speaker of the British Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, announced the vote on Thursday, asking if a third new investigation will be launched into the partygate scandal, this time to determine whether The British Prime Minister lied inside the parliament. But the start of this new inquiry is not very easy to do as the Conservative party has a strong majority in parliament and in recent weeks seems to be gathering around the face of Boris Johnson because of his stance on the issue of Ukraine.

Of course, even today there was a section of Conservative MPs in Parliament who called on its leader to resign, despite the practical support of some others who asked for the “sympathy” of the parliament in the repeated apologies of the prime minister. In any case, the issue remains in the forefront and on the front pages. This is, after all, the main goal of the opposition parties, which hope to capture the reaction of the people in the upcoming local elections of the municipal councils on May 5.
