Analytical company Canalys published a forecast for the development of the personal computer market, which analysts refer to desktop systems, laptops and tablets, in the current year. Canalys experts expect that the market will grow by 8.4% compared to last year. This is a high figure given that the market has already grown significantly last year.
According to the forecast, in just 2021, 496.8 million PCs will be shipped. The growth will be based on deferred demand caused by a shortage of finished goods and persisting restrictions associated with the pandemic. In other words, the transition of a large number of users to remote work and training.
The largest growth is expected in the current quarter. Analysts predict that it will be 54%. For comparison: in the second quarter the market will grow by only 7%.
Sales of desktop PCs in 2021 will grow by 4.4% compared to 2020 – from 61.6 million units to 64.4 million units. Notebook sales will grow by 9.4% – from 236.0 million units to 258.2 million units. Tablet sales will grow by 8.3% – from 160.9 million units to 174.2 million units.
