Costa Public Prosecutor’s Office of Costa Rica accuses President Rodrigo Chavez and six other government officials of illegally funding their election campaign and asked the Supreme Court to lift the President’s immunity and refer him. Among the defendants are Foreign Minister Andre Tinoko and Stefan Brunner, one of Chavez’s vice -presidents. Chavez’s office did not respond immediately to a request for a comment. The research, which began in 2022, concluded that two parallel resource concentration structures were used to finance Chavez’s election campaign and were not declared as required by law. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has already accused Chavez of unfair influence and this case is still pending. In April, prosecutors argued that members of the government bribed a leading government ally using resources from the Bank of Economic Integration Bank.
