In the heart of Lecce, a boutique hotel with a timeless charm

In via de ‘Perroni, which goes from Porta San Biagio to Piazza Sant’Oronzo, stands an ancient palace rich in history, which the legend wants to be built right on the ruins of the house of the patron saint of the baroque city. On the portal with a sixth arch, if you look carefully, you can see an upside down angel holding a donut in his hands: in a seventeenth-century manuscript it is said that, in 1219, Saint Francis of Assisihaving knocked on the door of the structure to ask for alms, he found himself in front of a page with “a large white bread” in his hand.

Just to remember this episode, it was decided to carve the angel offering a typical Lecce bread, called puddhricasciu. For this reason the housing complex in front of the monastery of San Matteo was called for a long time Pollicastro Island. A fascinating story, which tells of a place of great tradition, recently restored from Miglietta family and transformed into Pollicastro Boutique Hotel. The goal of the team that took care of the project was that of return spaces to their former glory without distorting them, combining typical local materials such as stone, wood and iron with more modern materials such as precious brass and precious marbles.
