Google has launched a fresh innovation for Google Messages, the basic messaging app for Android smartphones.

Following the launch of end-to-end encryption and the ability to mark messages with an asterisk, now the developers have implemented an easy way to change the font size in chats without changing the font size throughout the system.

The functionality is quite simple – you can open any conversation and make a characteristic gesture with a spread of fingers, which will enlarge most of the text in the current window, while the application bar remains the same. All timestamps and message pop-ups are adjusted accordingly, including tooltips and text in the input field. Icons such as contact photos and the send button, as well as the menu, are not resized.

You can spread your fingers apart several times to increase the size of the text in succession. “Pinching” will return the text to its original state. The only exception is that the function does not work when the onscreen keyboard is open.
