Many people thought that there were rainbows on Mars when they saw a photo of the Perseverance rover. However, in reality, this is not the case, explain the employees of NASA in the official twitter of the rover.
“Many have asked: is it a rainbow on Mars? No. Rainbows are impossible here,” the message says.
NASA explains that rainbows form when light reflects off round water droplets. However, there is not enough water on Mars to condense and it is too cold to be liquid in the atmosphere, NASA noted.
“This arc is a lens flare,” the agency’s specialists explained the illusion in the photo.
