A committee of the US House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill on the development of blockchain, according to which the government will promote the implementation of this technology at the federal level.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously cast 46 votes in favor of the America’s Blockchain Act of 2023. It implies that US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will take the necessary measures to increase the competitiveness of the United States in the blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) industry.

In particular, the Secretary of Commerce should promote the development of guidelines for the public and private sectors using blockchain. The Blockchain Deployment Program will create government advisory committees that will include representatives from federal agencies and blockchain industry stakeholders. It is also necessary to conduct research on how federal agencies can already use blockchain, and prepare departments for the implementation of this technology.

The head of the blockchain lobbying group at the Chamber of Digital Commerce, Cody Carbone, supported the committee in passing this bill, as it will help the United States maintain leadership in the industry. China now holds 84% of all blockchain patents, so it’s time for the United States to act, Carbone tweeted.

Let us recall that in November, American legislators introduced a bill banning the use of Chinese blockchains to prevent China from gaining access to intelligence information and private data of Americans. That same month, North Carolina lawmakers proposed a bill to allow the free use and storage of cryptocurrencies, which the state would not be able to restrict.
