In the US state of Virginia, two people were arrested – they were going to break into the house of an investor to force him to reveal the password to a wallet with tens of millions of dollars in BTC.
Prosecutors found that Dominic Pineda and Shon Morgan intended to carry out their plan as early as May 2020. They were going to break into the victim’s house at night and gain access to a cryptocurrency wallet. Pineda and Morgan are accused of robbery plans and now face up to 20 years in prison.
“The indictment alleges that the defendants planned to break into a home and force residents to provide the key to a cryptocurrency wallet that they believed held tens of millions of dollars in bitcoin,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.
A British court recently sentenced a Yorkshire resident to nine years in prison after seizing $6.7 million in cryptocurrencies and $1.4 million worth of drugs.
