In which countries live mainly those who feel invincible from the coronavirus

A survey conducted in 51 countries showed that those who feel that the coronavirus can not affect them, they have the feeling of invincibility, become an obstacle to vaccination. And this is true in countries where there is an individualistic mentality in the population, to the detriment of collective action.

The study, led by James Leonhard of the University of Nevada in the United States and published in the journal PLoS One, shows that people who do not believe that Covid-19 infection can pose a serious threat to their health, they are on the one hand more indifferent to taking measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic and on the other hand less willing to be vaccinated.

The researchers analyzed the answers of more than 200,000 people to questions such as how serious it is to get sick from Covid-19, as well as how willing they are to do so. vaccine and more generally to take the initiative to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in his community according to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

The countries

The analysis found that the more invincible one feels of the coronavirus, considering it unlikely to get seriously ill because of it, the more reluctant he is to be vaccinated and the less important he considers to do what he can to prevent the virus from spreading to others. It was found that the largest percentage of (supposedly) “invincibles” live in countries that place more emphasis on individual freedom and autonomy (USA, Britain, Canada, etc.), while on the contrary the “invincibles” are less in countries that give priority to collectivity.

The researchers pointed out the importance of cultural and psychological factors tackling the pandemic and promoting vaccinations so as to influence citizens’ behavior. “While the feeling of invincibility can be helpful in overcoming financial difficulties or during times of war, the findings of our study show that this feeling reduces the likelihood that people will be vaccinated against Covid-19. “This is especially true in individualistic countries like the United States, where people tend to focus on their own health rather than the collective health of their community.”
