Inauguration Day, Jill Biden and Kamala Harris looks for the settlement

Reduced ceremony, enhanced security, no audience. For the first time in history, no parade along Pennsylvania Avenue, the boulevard that runs alongside the Capitol. With Donald and Melania Trump literally flying away (they left the White House aboard a helicopter) and definitely out of the game, it happens in a more solemn way than ever. Joe Biden’s oath, 46th American President.

For the day she is destined to be First Lady, Doctor Jill Biden chose an ocean blue wool tweed coat, while hanging with the dress with a chiffon bodice and scalloped skirt, embellished with pearls and Swarovski crystals.

The nuance was chosen to communicate trust, security and stability. Jill paired the look with a mask in the same shade of blue. The outfit is designer Markarian and designed by the emerging New York designer Alexandra O’Neill. It is a sustainability-oriented brand, with all garments made to order to reduce waste. The suit could be donated to the Smithsonian’s famed First Ladies Collection, as there will be no inaugural balls for Biden’s inauguration and therefore no inaugural gowns to offer to the collection as happened with previous Flotus.

Kamala Harris, entered history as the first woman, moreover of color and of Asian origin, to become vice president, she wore a bright purple coat (nuance also chosen by Hillary Clinton, in a trouser suit, as a sign of bipartism, as a union of blue and red, and in a burgundy variant, by Michelle Obama also signed by Sergio Hudson), combined with a black mask by the designers Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson. The inevitable pearls illuminate the outfit that Harris has always worn as a symbol, too, of female empowerment.

In Ralph Lauren, however, both Joe Biden (in a dark blue suit and coat) and the second gentlemen, Doug Emhoff. On social media, the sartorial choices and the demonstration of support for American designers at the top of the state was greeted with praise and applause. The comparison with the look chosen by Melania Trump immediately took place, for her last day in Washington she wore a Chanel jacket and a $ 70,000 Birkin, considered out of tune for the occasion.

The ensemble inaugurations of the First Lady and Vice President look promising. To be continued…
