Incendiary Tatar: Varosi is the property of the Ottomans

Turkey’s right as a guarantor power in Cyprus is a legal right that stems from history, said the occupying leader Ersin Tatar, according to the Turkish media, as broadcast by the Cypriot Press and Information Office.

In his statements yesterday at the extraordinary general assembly of the Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the city of Yoruk, in the province of Antalya, Mr. Tatar spoke about “the struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriots on the island and the strategic importance of the island”.

Referring to the war between Ukraine and Russia, Tatar said that because of the war there was a big increase in the price of oil and great accuracy in general.

“Our people have lived so long that they will be able to overcome this crisis. The important thing is our state, our democracy, our sovereignty and our existence,” he said.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, claiming that they are waging a major struggle with many countries over various issues related to hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean, territorial waters and airspace, Tatar said that in this struggle they are in full consultation with Turkey.

Referring to the Cyprus issue, he said that talks had been held for years with the “Greek Cypriot administration of southern Cyprus”, as he called the Republic of Cyprus, to reach an agreement on cooperation and added that in the new period they no longer talk about a federation.

Tatar also said that the presence of the Turkish army in Cyprus and the continuation of Turkey’s guarantees for the pseudo-state are the most important things for them, for which they will never make concessions.

Asked about the financial contribution of the opening of the besieged city of Varos to the pseudo-state, Tatar claimed that, according to all documents, archives and titles, “Varos is the property of the Ottomans. Varos opened. “The beach front and public spaces were opened. And despite the pandemic, to date the number of visitors to Varosi has exceeded 400 thousand. The opening of Varosi has contributed to both the economy and the tourism of the TRNC.”

Answering another question, Tatar said that regarding the Turkey-Ukraine war, they are acting together with Turkey, while referring to the Greek Cypriot side, he stated that he has decided to close its airspace to Russia, since it is an EU member.

According to Bayrak, during his contacts in Antalya, Tatar met with the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkish States, Baghdad Amreyev, and a delegation of the organization.

“There can be two states in Cyprus under the EU roof”

There may be two states in Cyprus under the roof of the EU, said Turkish leader Ersin Tatar, while reiterating that Turkey’s guarantees are the ‘red line’.

In a speech to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in Antalya, the Turkish leader said that one of the most important dates for Cyprus was the date of 1571, when it came under Ottoman rule. “We are always in Cyprus and we try to maintain our presence,” he said. “Even when the Ottoman Empire left Cyprus, Ersin Tatar said,” We Cypriots always looked to Anatolia. We were looking at the Taurus Mountains. “We have always dreamed ‘When will our Turkey come to Cyprus?’ According to the Turkish leader, on July 20, 1974, a new era began.

Ersin Tatar claimed that there are two “separate sovereign peoples” in Cyprus and that his own policy is based on that. As he said, the way for a fair, permanent and viable agreement in Cyprus is to have two separate states living side by side.

Referring to the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, the Turkish Cypriot leader said “we are no longer talking about a federation”, arguing that the federation’s position means the complete withdrawal of the Turkish Republic from Cyprus over time and said that they would never agree to it. According to Ersin Tatar, Turkey’s guarantees are the ‘red line’.

Asked about Varosha, Ersin Tatar said the opening was a major political step and that despite the pandemic, some 400,000 people had visited the city.

Asked if he would like to see Cyprus in the European Union and Turkish as the official language of the EU, Ersin Tatar replied “if we can be in the EU as a separate state, of course, Turkish can be the official language of the EU. It can to have two states in Cyprus under the roof of the EU ”.
