Incognito mode in Chrome will be protected by a fingerprint. Now one less fear

Starting in 2020, some Google iOS apps received support for the Privacy Screen feature, which requires biometric authentication to access them. Now this feature has appeared in Chrome for Android. If the user has tabs open in incognito mode, then when they exit the browser, they will be instantly blocked. In order to return to them again, you will need to authenticate with a fingerprint or PIN.

This feature is very useful, especially in cases where the smartphone falls into the wrong hands. Previously, the developers made it so that the content of web pages in incognito mode is not displayed on the screen of running applications, but it is not difficult to go into Chrome and see which tabs are open. Now you have to go through verification, and you can only view tabs that are open in normal mode without a password.

The new feature has not yet been fully implemented, so at this stage it can be enabled on the hidden settings page:

  • chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android

After the “flag” is enabled, the corresponding option appears in the “Privacy and Security” settings menu. The public rollout of the feature is likely to happen soon.
