A survey by Oxfam showed that the fortunes of the 10 richest people in the world jumped from approximately US$ 700 billion to US$ 1.5 trillion between March 2020 and November 2021. In the period, the world gained a new billionaire every 26 hours, but 99% of the population became impoverished. In Brazil, the 20 richest have a wealth greater than that of 60% of the entire population.
From April 2020 to April 2021, it is estimated that 377 Brazilians lost their hourly jobs and that more than 600,000 companies went bankrupt. At the same time, a report by the International Labor Organization pointed out that unemployment in the world will only return to pre-pandemic level after 2023.
