Income fell to a third (34%) of the Brazilian population during the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, spending increased to 63%, Serasa shows. The survey also reveals that most of what Brazilians earn stays in supermarkets, according to respondents, due to inflation.
Despite food eroding most of Brazilians’ income, the pandemic caused 88% of people to prioritize health spending and 87% to insurance. With people spending more time at home amid social isolation, subscription streaming services were seen as a priority by 84% of respondents. The latter is ahead of spending on schools, colleges and the rent itself.
The survey also shows that to pay off debts, 32% of Brazilians interviewed made an agreement during the pandemic and 37% resorted to a loan at the bank, with friends or family. The amount requested was up to BRL 3,500.00 and most opted for payment in up to 24 months.
The survey surveyed 2,032 people online from 01/20/2022 to 02/02/2022.
