The deadline for submitting the income tax return ends next Tuesday (31). But the IRS has already started to release the refund lots for those who have to receive and to disclose those taxpayers who fell into the fine mesh flame.
Falling into the fine mesh means that the declaration will be withheld due to an error, such as an incorrect value, omitted income or divergent registration information. If the taxpayer enters the fine mesh, the recommended by experts is to identify the problem that occurred during the filling.
Tax lawyer Cláudio Leite Pimentel explains that it is very common to fall into the fine mesh, mainly due to expenses with dependents, which are pending proof, as well as medical expenses.
The expert points out that the taxpayer has some options to follow in this case. The first is the possibility of organizing a dossier of documents through the e-CAC itself, proving that the eventual inconsistency pointed out by the Federal Revenue is correct.
Another option, according to the expert, is to carry out an Income Tax rectification, correcting the problem. The declaration of rectification can be made through the official website of the Federal Revenue Service or in the program of the original declaration. It is possible to correct both this year’s declaration, referring to the year 2021, and previous years.
In addition, even if the submission of the amended declaration takes place after May 31, the user will not be subject to the fine for late delivery. Taxpayers can amend a declaration up to five years after delivery.
If the taxpayer is not successful in either of the two options, Pimentel says that it remains to wait until January 2023 so that it is possible to schedule an in-person visit to the Revenue and correct the error.
The Internal Revenue Service reported that, until 11 am on Monday (23), 25,094,079 declarations of the Individual Income Tax 2022 had been delivered, representing approximately 73% of the total of the 34,100,000 declarations expected.
