An increase in the number of American tourists in Chania compared to other periods, as well as an interest in increasing the days of their stay, record the first research data to investigate the profile, preferences and degree of satisfaction of foreigners visiting Chania, through the “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” airport.
The research for the conduct of which a programming contract was signed today between the municipality of Chania and the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute (M.A.I.H.), is ongoing and is supported by a team of 20 scientists from the M.A.I.H.
According to the contract, the Institute undertakes to investigate, through a special questionnaire in various languages, the travel behavior, profile and preferences of foreign tourists visiting the municipality of Chania, in the 2022 tourist season, as well as to evaluate their degree of satisfaction with the offered services.
“It is important to have primary data accessible to everyone that will reflect with objectivity and scientific validity the physiognomy of our visitors, the comparative advantages of our place, but also the weaknesses that we are asked to correct”, stressed the mayor of Chania during the signing of the contract Panagiotis Simandirakis pointing out that the municipality and MAIH cooperate positively on a number of issues concerning the local community.
For his part, the director of the MAIH Giorgos Baourakis referred to the objectives of the research and its structural characteristics.
“The research, among other things, expands the interest of foreigners in extending the tourist season and in new destinations”, emphasized Mr. Baourakis, emphasizing at the same time that through the research opinions on various environmental issues are recorded.
The Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Nektarios Psaroudakis, characterized the research as important for all the tourism operators of the place, emphasizing at the same time that 2022 is a pivotal year for tourism.
